A Macduff schoolgirl has been announced as the winner of a challenge to design a healthy lunch box for youngsters.
The Munch that Lunch competition is run by Food Standards Scotland and received entries from hundreds of children across the country.
Ruby Geddes, 10, from Macduff Primary entered a colourful drawing of a lunch box, including a star-shaped wholemeal sandwich, boiled eggs, nuts, yoghurt and cucumbers sliced into smiley-faced shapes.
Ruby was picked as the winner by celebrity judge Craig Wilson, the north-east’s famous Kilted Chef. The primary 4/5 pupil and her family were treated to an all-expenses-paid trip to the Royal Highland Show over the weekend.
Ruby’s class also received vouchers for school resources to support their healthy eating, food safety and physical activities.
Mr Wilson said: “Each entry was brilliant and so well thought-out. However, Ruby’s design really made me smile. With so much colour and vibrancy on the entry form, her fun and creative lunchbox won me over, showing that you can still have fun with food while eating healthily.”
Ruby’s head teacher, Tristan Walker, congratulated her on winning the national prize.
And he added: “Food Standards Scotland’s competition was met with much enthusiasm throughout the school, with all our P4 to P7 pupils getting stuck in to produce some fantastic entries.
“It was great to see the children being so creative with healthy food, which we try to encourage as much as possible.”
