Bag searches will be carried out at an open-air opera event in an Aberdeen park next week as security is stepped up around the UK.
The city council has warned the searches, more usually associated with football grounds and rock concerts, will be conducted at the BP Big Screens showing of La Traviata at Duthie Park on Tuesday.
But the authority confirmed they had not received any specific threat to the event itself.
The UK currently has a severe threat for terror following numerous attacks this year.
Music events are especially under scrutiny following the suicide bombing of an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester in May which killed 23 adults and children.
The killer, 22 year old Salman Ramadan Abedi, was found to have links with the Islamic State (IS) terror group.
A city council spokeswoman said: “Leading up to BP Big Screens on Tuesday, July 4, Aberdeen City Council would like to make the public aware that there will be bag searches at the event at Duthie Park.
“This is an additional security measure in the interest of public safety and not in reaction to any new information or threat to Scotland or the event.
“The screen will go live at 6.30pm with the curtain up and the opera beginning at 7.00pm, so visitors are reminded to allow plenty time for entering the park. ”
Torry and Ferryhill councillor Alan Donnelly encouraged people to go along and enjoy the event, but asked them to “remain vigilant”.
He said: “Aberdeen is the oil and gas capital of Europe, it is a major economic centre and is at much at threat as any city in the UK.
“But, that said, I do hope people go along and enjoy the event which is fantastic. It’s a shame bags have to be checked, but that’s the environment we now live in.”
Picnics and portable seating are welcome in the park for the free event, but no barbecues or naked flames are allowed.
A selection of hot and cold soft drinks and baked goods will be available to purchase.
The alcohol by-law on drinking in public places will be lifted between 6pm and 11pm, but alcohol can only be consumed on the main grass area of Duthie Park.
