Five north-east sports clubs are to be given a share of almost £3.8million in a grant from the National Lottery.
Over 500 clubs spanning 51 sports will receive the money to fund sport and physical activity projects across the country.
The windfall ensures grassroots sport clubs in Scotland, delivering everything from wheelchair football to kayaking and American football to shinty, will now get the green light to go ahead.
Aberdeenshire sporting clubs which will receive the grant include Scottish Dodgeball, based in Westhill, which will receive £5,000 to host the European Dodgeball championships in August.
Also to benefit is Stoneywood Cricket Club in Dyce, who will receive £7,000, the biggest north-east grant. The cash will be used to purchase a range of cricket equipment in the hope of encouraging more people to get involved in the sport.
Stewart Harris, chief executive of sportscotland, said: “At sportscotland, we believe in the power of sport and its ability to bring communities together.”
“Almost £4million of National Lottery Awards for All Scotland funding announced through this initiative will make a huge difference to local groups like Stoneywood Dyce Cricket Club and Scottish Dodgeball with ambition to provide more and better opportunities to take part in sport and physical activity in the heart of their communities.”
This community based cash boost comes from National Lottery Awards for All Scotland which provides grants from £500 to £10,000 with funds raised by the National Lottery.
Applications are received on a rolling basis and can be received at any time. To find out what National Lottery Awards for All Scotland could do for your community visit www.biglotteryfund.org.uk
