The work never stops for the staff at Sue Ryder Dee View Court.

And yesterday, a north-east MP praised the dedication and commitment of the carers, nurses and other employees, who “go the extra mile” to provide round-the-clock care for 24 residents with a complex range of neurological conditions in the Granite City.

Ross Thomson, the Conservative MP for Aberdeen South, visited the Kincorth-based facility and saw for himself the unstinting support which the centre offers to people of all ages with such illnesses as Motor Neurone Disease, multiple sclerosis, acquired brain injury and Huntington’s Disease.

Mr Thomson met the Dee View Court team and was impressed by their efforts to ensure residents are granted the highest possible quality of life.

And, afterwards, he backed the Sue Ryder capital appeal, which was launched last month to expand the centre to accommodate another 20 residents by 2019.

Mr Thomson said: “The work of Sue Ryder here in Aberdeen and elsewhere is second to none. The care it provides for over 20 residents gives people in the most challenging of circumstances and their families some respite.”

“I am hopeful this capital appeal will allow them to extend this world-class service to the many others who are in need of their expertise.”

Sue Ryder Dee View Court is the only purpose-built specialist neurological centre in Scotland and recently received the highest grade from the Care Inspectorate for its acclaimed level of care, support and staffing.

The appeal, which has the backing of the Press and Journal and former BP chief, Trevor Garlick, is designed to raise £3.9million to create an extension to the centre, which will comprise 20 additional beds and six additional supported living apartments.

This expansion will ensure a greater number of people in Scotland with complex neurological needs receive the help they require to live a full and satisfying life.

Mr Thomson added: “There is so much demand for places at Dee View Court, because it is a centre of excellence and it is a beacon in the north-east.

“Perhaps, in the future, the model could be replicated in other parts of Scotland. But, for the moment, let’s all get behind what Sue Ryder is doing.”
