Plans for more than 100 houses, flats and retirement homes on a new eight-acre estate in Aberdeen could get the go-ahead from councillors next week.
Dandara want to build 116 dwellings, comprising two apartment blocks, 35 houses and retirement apartment blocks on a plot of land at Hazelwood, off Countesswells Road.
In a supporting statement, the building company argued the development would deliver “much-needed” accommodation for older people in the area.
The statement added: “Development of the site would not only create an attractive addition to the local area, but would ensure the delivery of much needed homes for older people.
“The proposal has been assessed against the provisions of national planning policy as well as local planning policy and is found to comply with both.
“The development proposed has been designed to the highest standard to ensure that it is sympathetic to the existing residential area buildings whilst complementing and providing an attractive addition to the local area.
“It would also encourage sustainable travel. In light of the benefits that would accrue as a result of the proposal, and the proposal’s compliance with national and local planning policy, it is respectfully requested the application is approved.”
Planners are advising that councillors approve the development with conditions.
But the application has proved controversial in some quarters with a number of objections being raised.
The objectors have claimed the development could be considered as “over-development”, the new blocks would be “visually unappealing” and that it would lead to more traffic congestion on Countesswells Road.
Councillors on the planning committee will discuss the issue next Thursday.
