Visitors to events across the north-east have been warned to be on their best behaviour after several people were charged for alleged fighting at last week’s Echt Show.
Police say alcohol-fuelled disorder or anti-social behaviour of any kind will not be accepted as revellers make their way to a busy weekend of attractions across the region.
The New Deer Show and Marquee, as well as Highland shows in Stonehaven and Tomintoul, are set to take place and officers are urging people to take care to avoid a repeat of last weekend’s disorder.
Local Area Commander Chief Inspector Murray Main said: “Police were forced to intervene at the end of the Echt Show despite repeated warnings of the potential consequences of anti-social behaviour or disorder.
“This was a family-friendly event which should have been trouble-free. However, a small minority chose to behave in a completely ridiculous manner.
“Only through the actions of the good numbers of Police officers present were we able to prevent the situation escalating.”
A number of people have been reported to the Procurator Fiscal following several incidents at the show and are expected to appear in court at a later date.
Ch Insp Main said preparations for this weekend’s events had been underway for many months and warned those ruining it for others would be brought to justice and could be banned from future shows.
He added:Â “If any anti-social behaviour is detected at these events then we will have no option but to deploy increased Police resources in the future.
“My message is clear – have fun by all means, but be sensible and don’t act in a way you will regret the next morning.”
