Tributes paid to keen angler who died in motorbike crash at notorious blackspot

Macauley Tuck, 25, has been named as the man who died in a road accident near Milton of Campfield.
Macauley Tuck, 25, has been named as the man who died in a road accident near Milton of Campfield.

A young motorcyclist who died in a crash at a notorious accident blackspot was a keen amateur angler with an “infectious” enthusiasm, family and friends said.

Macauley Tuck from Torphins died when his bike collided with a car on the A980 Torphins to Raemoir road at Milton of Campfield on Monday.

The 25-year-old’s family said he was “a character and had a great sense of humour”.

“We would like to thank everyone who has been in touch or came by – it is very much appreciated,” they said in a statement released by the police.

“He had many interests and particularly loved fishing, especially on the river Dee.

“He will be very sorely missed by his family, friends and colleagues.”

River Dee development officer Ross Macdonald said Mr Tuck’s death had come as a “real blow” and described him as “our friend”.

He said last night: “Everyone is still in complete shock today; he was such an enthusiastic guy Macauley.

“Macauley came along to one of our introductory fishing courses last year. He had done a bit of fishing before, was after a few pointers and someone to show him the ropes.

“He took to it like a duck to water – shortly after he was on the course he caught his first salmon.

“Since then he’s been out as much as he could.

“Such a sad loss; he even turned up at the intro day this year to help out. He was a great example of a young guy that we like to encourage into the sport.

“His enthusiasm was infectious.”

The stretch of road near Campfield filling station has seen several fatalities and is currently awaiting a reduced speed limit to be implemented.

Councillor Peter Argyle has been campaigning for the safety measure and last night said the community was “completely devastated” at the latest tragedy.

He said: “We have been through all the formal processes now for introducing the speed limit at Campfield, there were no objections so the road traffic order can go ahead.

“It will cover the whole section through Campfield and past the garage, it is just a question of getting the final order and putting the signs up, but I’m not sure when that will be happening.”
