A man has been charged with stealing a Land Rover and two motorbikes in thefts totalling £40,000 in the north-east.
The 31-year-old is alleged to have taken the 4×4 at Bridge of Dee, Banchory on March 23 before it was later recovered.
He is also accused of taking two motorbikes and housebreaking at a garage in Bellwood Crescent, Aboyne on April 18.
Other charges he was due to face at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday were two housebreakings with intent to steal at garages on Hillview Crescent, Cults on March 27 and theft from a vehicle, housebreaking with intent to steal from a shed and garage and an attempted housebreaking from a garage at various addresses in Banchory on May 8.
Detective Sergeant Bruce Buntain said: “Thank you to the members of the public who assisted officers while enquiries were carried out in relation to these reports.”
He added: “Operation Magpie exists in North East Division to ensure daily, targeted proactive action is taken to tackle acquisitive crime. Prevention is key so I would always urge the public to ensure all doors and windows to your properties and vehicles are locked and secure at all times to not give thieves a chance. “Crimes of this nature will not be tolerated.
“If you notice any suspicious activity – day or night – in the area you live please let us know as soon as possible. Look out for unfamiliar vehicles or people and most importantly, tell us. There won’t be any issue with officers attending a false call made in good faith.
“Contact Police on 101, Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 if you would prefer to remain anonymous, or 999 if it is an emergency.”
