A popular north-east guidebook has been revamped to include even more natural wonders from along the Buchan coastline.
The free Energetica Walking and Wildlife Guide is a showcase of coastal walks and wildlife hotpots along the shoreline between Aberdeen and Peterhead.
Budding explorers are invited to spot wildlife in unusual spots along the coast, including at Peterhead harbour as well as the more popular Forvie National Nature Reserve.
Other popular highlights include the collapsed sea cave at the Bullers of Buchan near Boddam – a haven for birdwatchers and photographers.
Energetica is a project which promotes sustainable business in the “corridor” stretching between the Blue Toon and Aberdeen. The walking guide includes a business walk for those making a flying visit to the north-east, with routes around Dyce and Ellon included.
The guide also includes information on the humpback whales which took up residence in the corridor’s waters last year.
First published three years ago, the free guide is available across the north-east in visitor centres and libraries. It is also available online.
VisitAberdeenshire’s Nikki Morris-Laing said: “The Aberdeenshire coastline is a must see for anyone visiting the region, with National Geographic describing it as ‘one of the world’s outstanding coastlines’.
“The Energetica Walking and Wildlife guide is helping to make our coastal beauty spots even more accessible for visitors and locals alike which is fantastic.”
Robert Gordon University principal Professor Ferdinand von Prondzynski, who is chair of the Energetica steering group, added: “Here, we can stroll through nature and enjoy stunning coastal views, while also seeing wildlife on land and in the water that many will never experience elsewhere.
“The guide offers an excellent way to plan your walks and enjoy our beautiful region. The Energetica corridor not only offers optimal conditions for business investment but is also a perfect place to discover what the North East has to offer.”
