A lorry carrying a herd of cattle tipped over and landed against a wall on a busy north-east commuter route.
The articulated truck contained 30 animals when it crashed on the A944 halfway between Dunecht and Aberdeen this afternoon shortly before 1.30pm.
Police, fire crews and vets rushed to the scene. The lorry driver escaped unhurt. It is not yet known if the cattle were injured.
A police spokeswoman said: “We received the call at around 1.30pm. It involved a lorry carrying cattle. The vehicle was at a 45 degree angle against a wall. There were 30 cattle on board.
“The fire service was called out to make the vehicle safe. Vets were also called.”
The road is expected to be shut for a number of hours after a recovery lorry caused damage to the road on its way to remove the damaged truck.
A fire service spokeswoman added: “We received a call to an incident involving an articulated lorry carrying livestock. A number of cows were trapped within. We are still there helping remove the cows into another articulated lorry.”
A large section of the road is still closed.
