A north-east cancer support charity is launching a new initiative to help Peterhead locals affected by a diagnosis.
Clan Cancer Support has organised an eight-week Feeling Better, Feeling Positive programme funded by grant cash from the local council.
Starting this week, the project offers workshops focused on maintaining “a sense of wellbeing” during cancer treatment and recovery.
The weekly sessions will be a chance to join a support group at Peterhead’s Palace Hotel.
Topics include nutritional advice, relaxation, mindfulness and gentle exercise. Classes on styling, make-up and skin care will also form part of the programme.
Angie Howarth, Clan’s service coordinator for north Aberdeenshire, said: “The aim of Clan’s Looking Better, Feeling Positive project is to provide individuals with the knowledge and skills to gain a positive outlook and understanding of the physical and emotional impact of cancer and resulting treatments.”
She said thanks to funding from Aberdeenshire Council the charity has been able to organise workshops which she believes will give those affected by cancer a boost.
She added: “We are fully focused on creating a supportive environment which will allow people to not only access the information and support but also benefit from sharing thoughts, feelings and experiences with others attending the group.”
