A teenager has been charged in connection with an alleged break-in at an Aberdeenshire jewellery shop earlier this year.
Several watches were taken and nearly £10,000 worth of damage caused in the incident at Ellon’s Bridge Street’s K&C Jewellers on March 11.
A 17-year-old man has been charged in relation to the alleged theft along with a further charge related to housebreaking at Scotsfir Crescent on December 9, 2016.
Investigating officer DC Gary Johnston last night said: “Extensive inquiries into these incidents were carried out and we would like to thank members who assisted us while the investigation was on-going.”
The jewellery store had only been open a few months when the raid took place.
Owner Kevin Reid at the time described the “soul destroying” moment he arrived to open up and saw the window had been smashed in.
He said it would have taken a significant effort to get through the frontage, which was glazed with special strengthened glass.
Police carried out door-to-door inquiries in the area and reviewed the shop’s CCTV to try to trace the culprits.
Mr Reid said: “We’ve had other thefts in the past, people stuffing things in their pockets and that, but that is what comes with the job.
“I still can’t believe this happens. We’ve been in Ellon for 14 years and we opened this new shop in November.
“It’s pretty soul-destroying, because you would never think something would happen in a small community like this.”
