Camphill School in Aberdeen has received a donation of £10,000 worth of store credit from The John Lewis Foundation to help turn its new building into a home.
Students were invited to the John Lewis store on George Street earlier this week to pick out goods for their new Cairnlee House facility.
They bought bedding, towels for their bathrooms and a number of items for the kitchen such as kettles and aprons.
Laurence Alfred, executive director of Camphill School Aberdeen, said “The staff warmly welcomed our students and made them feel like VIPs.
“Our students had a wonderful day selecting what they need for their bedrooms and for shared areas like the living room and kitchen.
“These will create a vibrant and homely atmosphere for our students living in Cairnlee House and we cannot thank John Lewis enough.”
The school provides programmes of residential and non-residential education and care, therapeutic intervention, and emergency care for children and their families.
Head of John Lewis Aberdeen Branch, Robert Garnish, added: “We are delighted that Camphill School Aberdeen was successful in securing a grant from the John Lewis Foundation.
“The work that the school does, and has done over the years, demonstrates a longstanding commitment to the community in which we trade and it was wonderful to welcome some of the students into the store as they choose the products that will furnish their new house.”
Yvonne Stevenson-Robb, mother of student Rohan, said: “It is a wonderful gesture from the John Lewis Foundation to support us in this way.
“Rohan is delighted with his new room and couldn’t wait to move back in. The house is his second home, so for us it is really important that he is surrounded by good quality furniture.”
