A joint investigation has been launched after two cars and a van were destroyed in a spate of “wilful fire-raising” at the same property in Aberdeen.
Fire crews from Dyce and North Anderson Drive were called to the scene in the Overton Green area at around 4.49am this morning.
A Vauxhall Corsa and Renault Megane were found “well alight” but later extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
Police say they are treating the incident as deliberate after fire crews attended another blaze at the same rural property on Tuesday morning.
Emergency workers arrived in the area to find a white Ford Transit pick up in flames.
Police have urged the public to come forward in a bid to piece together the circumstances around both incidents and warned such actions will not be tolerated.
Detective Constable Christopher Wilson said: “Following initial enquiries we are now treating these as wilful fire-raisings and I would appeal to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area to please get in touch.
“I don’t think I need to stress the potential devastating consequences of setting a fire on purpose, especially in a residential area while innocent members of the public are in bed. It won’t be tolerated.”
One of the cars involved was left completely blackened following the blaze on Thursday, while the interior of the van had previously been destroyed.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We were alerted at 4.49am to reports of vehicles on fire.
“Firefighters used powerful water jets to extinguish the flames. There were no casualties. Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”
Aberdeen City councillor Barney Crockett, who represents the area, said: “I think it’s a very concerning incident.
“I hope that the authorities get to the bottom of it as quickly as possible.
“It is a very peaceful area with few negative incidents of that kind.
“Everyone should get as much information as possible to the authorities and get to the bottom of what has gone on.”
