A campaign group against plans for Aberdeen FC’s new £50million stadium at Kingsford has received half of the £60,000 needed to launch a judicial review if the scheme is given the go-ahead.
The city council will decide whether or not to approve the proposals for the 20,000-seat arena, training academy and heritage museum between Westhill and Kingswells on October 11.
And officials of the No Kingsford Stadium group confirmed last night they have received guarantees of £30,000 funding for their petition for a judicial review through pledges and donations.
Heather Brock said: “The support from the community has been fantastic. It is clear local people are with us as was demonstrated during the site visit by councillors.
“The generous financial support given by those against the stadium plans is further evidence that the community does not want a stadium or any other further development along the A944.”
A heated pre-determination hearing at the council chamber took place last month.
Dons manager, Derek McInnes, club directors and other supporters made their case for the new facility, while several people against the proposal raised concerns over the loss of green belt land, noise and potential crowd trouble.
