Motorists will face more traffic misery this weekend as transport bosses revealed they will face a near 30 mile detour while a major road is shut.
The A947 Aberdeen to Banff road will close between Parkhill Bridge, Dyce, and the Fountain Equestrian Centre at Goval from 8pm tonight.
The closure, which is in place until 6am on Monday, is needed to allow a new road to be built as part of the ongoing Aberdeen bypass works.
The road will connect the new section of the A947 – but drivers face long diversions as a result.
Aberdeenshire Council has advised an official diversion will be in place during the works, taking traffic through Inverurie and Oldmeldrum.
A Transport Scotland spokesman said: “The project contractor has scheduled a weekend closure, from October 6, of the A947 at Goval to undertake essential works as part of the AWPR/B-T project.
“These works will see the contractor connect the new section of the A947 Aberdeen to Oldmeldrum road. It is expected that this new section of the A947 will be available for use at the beginning of the following week.”
Once completed, it will form part of the northern leg of the bypass, which runs between Kingswells and Blackdog.
Meanwhile a small section of the North Deeside Road will be also be closed over the weekend, just east of the newly built bridge to allow resurfacing works to be carried out.
Diversions will be in place and signposted, with access for cyclists, pedestrians and emergency services maintained throughout.
And a third closure will take place on Friday night into Saturday morning on the A90 Aberdeen to Dundee road at Charleston.
The route will close for just 10 minutes at some point between midnight and 4am when traffic is at its lowest.
This is to allow new poles to be installed at both sides of the road and power lines to be transferred from existing poles.
The road will re-open immediately after the works have been completed.
