Tributes have been paid to a “good dad” who had “cheeky banter” after he was found dead in a north-east home.
Police went to Castle Road, Cruden Bay on Sunday evening where they discovered the body of 24-year-old Wayne Cartney.
His death was initially treated as unexplained and officers taped off an area around the house and spent until yesterday afternoon carrying out investigations at the scene.
But they have since confirmed there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.
Mr Cartney, a father-of-one, lived in Peterhead and had previously worked in the fishing trade.
People living in Castle Road told of their shock at his death.
Andrew Ritchie said: “I feel for his family.
“You wouldn’t wish it on anyone. It’s quiet here so it was a bit of a change to see it so busy with all the police.”
Another neighbour added: “There had been a lot of coming and going at that house in the last few weeks.
“The police arrived at about 5.30pm and were there all night. You can’t help but look and wonder what’s happened. It’s a quiet bit here. We’re not used to this sort of thing. It’s quite a friendly area. Everyone looks out for one another and tries to help each other out.
“I feel sorry for his parents. It’s very sad for them.”
His neighbour Kerry Powell from Peterhead said: “He was a sociable lad and had lots of good friends. He was always out for a giggle and had cheeky banter. He’d always say hello to you. He had a wee boy and was a good dad.”
A police spokeswoman said: “We can confirm that there are no apparent suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of a 24-year-old man in Cruden Bay.
“Officers were alerted to a sudden death in the Castle Road area on Sunday October 8, just after 5pm.
“Following inquiries there appears to be no suspicious circumstances and a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal in due course as is the case with all sudden deaths.”
