Even legendary commentator Sid Waddell might have run out of superlatives.
But two Aberdeen darts players are targeting a world record of playing the game for 60 consecutive hours to help a prostate cancer charity.
Best friends Dave “The Magpie” Matthew and Lewis “The Hitman” Grant are hoping to break the Guinness World Record for longest darts marathon-playing singles, which currently stands at 50 hours, 50 minutes and 50 seconds.
Mr Matthew, who has previously attempted much shorter darts challenges for charity, said the ambitious attempt would push both himself and Mr Grant to their limits.
The pair will take turns stepping up to the oche for at least 60 hours, with only a five-minute break for every hour of play to squeeze in brief naps and coffee.
All cash raised over the course of the record attempt will go towards Prostate Cancer UK.
Mr Matthew added: “In 2013, I did a darts marathon myself for 12 hours, and that was a fair challenge in itself.
“My friend suggested that we do some sort of challenge again to try and make Aberdeen famous for something, so we decided to go for the Guinness World Record for the longest time playing darts.
“But we won’t be going for the whole 60 hours straight, because obviously the records people don’t want you killing yourself, so we get to have a five minute break for every hour we play.
“We’re planning on saving up the breaks to have quick, 20 minute naps whenever we can, but as long as you’re playing again before your break time finishes, it will still qualify for a record.
“One part of the stipulations is it all has to be recorded, so we’re looking into recording it and getting it streamed as well.
“It’s going to be hard, but it’s going to be worth it, because helping to fight prostate cancer is an important cause for many people in the darts community.”
Mr Mathew and Mr Grant will take on the challenge on February 2 from noon at Grosvenor Casino close to the Castlegate.
