The closure of a major Aberdeen commuter route will be extended for at least one more week.
Part of Dyce Drive was closed to traffic from October 2, for what was originally planned to be two weeks, to allow for the construction of the new £333million Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre.
However, a spokesman for Robertson Major Projects, contractor for the new AECC, confirmed last night it could be shut until October 26.
Joe McMenamin, project director for the new exhibition centre, said: “While the initial road closure had been to allow for resurfacing works to take place, it has been determined that repairs to the road surface are required in addition, and hence it has been necessary for us to extend this road closure.
“We would encourage commuters to allow for increased travel time, in order to minimise disruption to their schedules.
“Delays are likely as a result of the work and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
Diversions are in place.
Commuters faced massive queues of up to three miles of congestion on the first day of Dyce Drive’s closure, but adjustments to traffic signals in the area have subsequently improved the situation.
