Police have launched an investigation after vandals smashed the windows of an Aberdeen GP practice and attempted to set fire to a post box.
Around 13 windows of the Cove Bay Health Centre were damaged, and staff discovered vandalism caused by small stones being thrown at the building’s entrance.
Litter, including food, sweets and juice bottles – as well as evidence of drug taking – has also been found at the site.
It is believed the centre was targeted by teenagers during one evening last week, and a resident called the police after seeing a group of youths trying to set the facility’s post box on fire.
Sue Porter, the secretary of Cove Community Council said: “This kind of vandalism and antisocial behaviour has been unfortunately going on for a while at the health centre.
“We suspect it’s teenagers in the evenings, there have been empty bottles lying around and many of the windows have been chipped after objects have been thrown at them.
“It’s a bit worrying, but it could easily be possible that the people doing this could be people coming into Cove from outside the community, which is even more worrying in a way.
“It’s a real shame, because apart from these people targeting the health centre, it’s really not a particularly bad area.
“There are a lot of windows that have been smashed, so it won’t be a cheap repair bill.”
The health centre is working with officers to find those responsible for the damage.
Anyone with information is urged to phone the police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
