An Aberdeenshire woman was left gobsmacked after being issued a £100 fine for parking in Inverness when her car was 90 miles away outside her home.
Kate Moorcroft, from Inverurie, received the penalty notice for allegedly leaving her car at the Strothers Lane building in the Highland capital.
The mum-of-two has now received an apology for the mix-up from the parking firm responsible for the blunder.
She suspects the confusion was caused by the vehicle the fine had been intended for having a registration number similar to that of her blue Dacia 4×4.
The 47-year-old dinner lady, who has not visited Inverness for years, said: “As soon as I got the letter through the door, I saw the error and appealed it with the company.
“In the letter it showed a red 4×4 car, which I think is a Subaru, and a red van.
“I don’t own any of those vehicles.
“It was really strange to be given the fine, but I am glad it has been resolved now.”
Perth-based Smart Parking has confirmed the cancellation of the charge, saying that the notice “was sent in error”.
