A firefighter whose estranged wife is accused of stalking him over a 10-month period has denied raping her.
Katie Purse is on trial at Aberdeen Sheriff Court accused of persistently phoning and sending abusive texts to Alan Purse between February and December 2015.
The court heard previously that the 32-year-old had threatened to accuse him of rape in front of his colleagues if he failed to end a relationship with his new partner.
Yesterday defence agent Graham Morrison asked Mr Purse: “Why would your wife say your marriage came to an end?”
He said: “We just grew apart. We had three kids and didn’t know anyone else in Aberdeen and we were never out of the house.”
Mr Morrison then asked: “Did you not have sex with her against her consent?”
He replied: “No.”
He was then asked: “In July 2013, on her birthday, when she was four months pregnant with your daughter and was in pain from her pelvis, do you remember having sex that night?”
He said: “No.”
Mr Morrison replied: “She would have found sex very painful.”
Mr Purse said: “I don’t know.”
Mr Morrison said: “Did you care?”
He said: “Of course I cared.”
He was then asked about a text message he allegedly sent the following day apologising and saying it would not happen again but denied any memory of this. The court previously heard he had been questioned by the police in July 2016 about the allegation of rape but the case had never been active.
Mr Purse was later questioned about mobile phone records. He said: “There are records for between April 18 and July 17. During this time there are about 50 calls from Katie to you, but there are 98 from you to her. You make twice as many calls to your stalker as she makes to you during that period.”
He replied: “No, not at all. I never called Katie my stalker.”
Mr Morrison replied: “That is why we are here, I’m afraid.”
Purse, of Woodside Terrace in Udny Station, denies the charge against her.
The trial will resume later this month.
