A woman has been killed in a blaze at an Aberdeen home.
Emergency services were called to a home in the city’s Shapinsay Square at around 9.10pm last night.
Fire crews extinguished the blaze and police were also on the scene.
This morning a force spokesman confirmed a 39-year-old woman had died as a result of the fire and no one else was injured.
Officers stayed at the home over night and an investigation is due to take place today.
A police statement added: “While inquiries are at an early stage and ongoing at present, the death is being treated as unexplained and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.”
A fire service spokesman said: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at 9.00pm on Monday, October 16 to reports of a fire affecting a flat within a four storey block of flats at Shapinsay Square, Lang Stracht, Aberdeen.
“Operations Control immediately mobilised three appliances and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the flames.
“Sadly, and despite the best efforts of emergency services, a woman aged 39 died as a result.
“A joint investigation between the SFRS and Police Scotland will take place in due course.”
