Thousands of families wrapped up warmly and enjoyed spectacular evenings of fireworks last night across the north-east.
Aberdeen’s celebration, which was cancelled last year due to high winds, attracted 12,000 people down to the beach for a spectacular display set to classic children’s movie songs.
From Aladdin to Frozen, children and grown-ups of all ages sang along to their favourite songs as the colourful rainbows of light illuminated the clear skies above the Granite City.
And with the finale set to the music of Mary Poppins, a supercalifragilisticexpialidocious evening was had by all.
Councillor Marie Boulton, culture spokeswoman for Aberdeen City Council said: “The annual fireworks spectacular is always a highlight on the Aberdeen events calendar, and tonight did not disappoint.
“With more than 12,000 people at the beach tonight, there was a fantastic family atmosphere and it is an excellent example of the appetite in the city for community events.
“The fire jugglers and charity fire-walk by Inspire was the perfect beginning to the evening, and the display created by Fireworx Scotland was incredible.”
In Aberdeenshire, the Inverurie Round Table display at Thainstone was so successful the event had to be delayed slightly for safety reasons.
Murray Skinner, convener of the Inverurie Round Table said: “We had our best attendance with over 5,000 people turning up.
“We had to delay the start by 15 minutes to allow everyone to get in safely.
“We took in £1,500 of profit this year, which is amazing and will all be spent on local projects.”
Bonfires and fireworks also warmed up the evenings of dozens of other communities across Aberdeenshire last night, including Stonehaven, Inverbervie and Alford.
And although Bonfire Night is over, the festivities will continue at the end of this week with further fireworks in Aboyne and Newmachar on Saturday, and in Tarves on Sunday.
