A man has appeared in court charged with murdering a young woman.

Mark Bruce, 32, appeared in private at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday, accused of killing Chloe Miazek at a flat.

The 20-year-old’s body was found in a flat on Rosemount Viaduct early on Friday.

Bruce, of Aberdeen, is also charged with attempting to defeat the ends of justice.

He made no plea or declaration during the brief hearing, and the case was continued for further examination. He was remanded in custody until his next appearance next week.

Detectives launched a major investigation following the discovery of Miss Miazek, going door-to-door and scouring CCTV for clues as to what happened.

Tributes to the bubbly young woman poured in over the weekend, with friends describing Miss Miazek, who would have turned 21 next week, as an outgoing “happy wee soul”.

In a family statement, her parents Bob and Theresa said: “We are absolutely devastated following the death of our beautiful daughter and sister, Chloe.

“She was in the prime of her life and had so much to look forward to and it is difficult for us to comprehend that she is not here with us today.”

Police have also issued a warning for people not to donate to a bogus online fundraising page for Miss Miazek’s family.

The page on YouCaring.com is in no way connected to the family, officers said.
