Officers are appealing for witnesses after the ropes used to tie a 27ft cruiser/fishing boat to the quayside at Portgordon were deliberately cut.
The incident happened some time between 7pm on Tuesday, October 31 and 10am on Wednesday, November 1.
Constable William Vass said: “The boat was found untethered to the quayside and the damage caused is estimated to be around a low three-figure sum of money.
“The potential for a more serious incident as a result of this reckless act is significant and we are appealing for anyone with information or who may have seen anything unusual or suspicious to contact us on 101 quoting CF0316161117.”
