A former Aberdeen fire station could be flattened to make way for 125 affordable houses.
Sanctuary Housing Association has told the city council it is considering a “major residential development” at the site on North Anderson Drive, near its junction with the Lang Stracht.
It is proposing building “approximately” 125 units with landscaping, car parking and associated infrastructure.
Classed as affordable housing, the organisation would sell the properties at 80% of their market value.
With the plans in the early stages, no details have been released on whether these will be houses or flats, or what size they may be.
The housing association now has 12 weeks in which to conduct a public consultation event before it can submit a formal planning application.
The fire station opened in the 1960s and was replaced with a new facility, built next door to it, in 2008.
In 2015, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service lodged proposals with the council to secure planning permission in principle for 90 homes on the site.
Maureen Watt, SNP MSP for Aberdeen South and North Kincardine, said: “The site on North Anderson Drive is in a prime position for staff coming to work at the hospital, which NHS Grampian can use to attract new talent, but also ensure we retain those staff in the city for years to come.
“By utilising the site for key worker accommodation in the city through the affordable housing supply scheme, the Scottish Government will show its long-lasting commitment to helping address the high demand for mid-market properties Aberdeen is currently facing.”
