Police have named a pensioner who died in hospital after a flat fire in Inverurie yesterday as Elsie Riddell.
The 86-year-old was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary after emergency services were called to the property at about 5.35pm yesterday, which is within Nether Davah House sheltered housing, Golf Crescent.
Fire crews quickly extinguished the blaze, which was contained to the flat within the premises.
Ms Riddell was taken to hospital for treatment, however later died from her injuries.
Detective Inspector Stewart Drummond, who is leading inquiries, said: “An investigation into the cause of the fire is still ongoing, however there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances. A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.
“Our thoughts are with Elsie’s family at this very sad time.”
