A pupil had to be hospitalised after he sustained an eye injury following an alleged disturbance at a north-east school.
The Press and Journal understands the boy was wounded by a pencil during an incident involving a fellow pupil at Mackie Academy.
It is believed the injured pupil was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where he had to undergo emergency surgery to save his eye.
The operation was believed to be successful.
Last night a north-east MSP said he was “very concerned” by the reports.
Liam Kerr, the Tories’ justice spokesman, said: “Mackie Academy is a good school with a deserved reputation and I am very concerned to hear about what sounds like a distressing incident.
“I have full confidence in the council’s investigation, which no doubt will be at a very early stage.
“To comment further without knowing the full circumstances would be inappropriate.”
Phil-Mills Bishop, chairman of Stonehaven Community Council, said he was sure the incident was an isolated one.
He said: “I’m horrified by this incident taking place in a school.
“Of course normally we are talking about knives as a problem and in this instance it wasn’t an offensive weapon involved.
“We have a good relationship with the school and have always found their pupils to be positive members of the community. I’m sure this was an isolated incident.”
A spokesman for Aberdeenshire Council said: “The council can confirm a pupil was hurt following an accident on Friday, November 10. We are providing support to the pupil’s family at this time. We wish the pupil a speedy recovery.”
