Buchan’s largest town could soon have its own drive through coffee shop.
Plans to create a small coffee shop have been approved for a site next to Burnside Road and the A982 in Peterhead.
Submitted by architects Mackie Ramsay Taylor, on behalf of Carnoustie Links Development Ltd, the development could serve motorists driving to nearby stores as part of the Burnside Business Park.
There are also plans to create a retail unit which in turn could be divided into two smaller units – for food or other produce.
In a supporting document, submitted alongside the scheme, a spokesman for Mackie Ramsay Taylor Architects said: “Its trade will largely be to motorists accessing the nearby retail stores or leaving, arriving or passing through Peterhead with little time to stop.
“It will therefore have negligible effect on the town centre and is only viable as a business in well trafficked edge of centre locations.
“The unit is likely to pick up trade from motorists already accessing the nearby retail provision in the vicinity of the Invernettie roundabout.
“It is also in close proximity to the Invernettie housing neighbourhood.”
Director of Mackie Ramsay Taylor Derek Clark added: “We think it complements the other things at the roundabout.
“I do think Peterhead’s had a rough deal for some reason, everyone seems to bypass it.”
The land the shop will be developed on is currently vacant.
An Aberdeenshire Council planning officer said the scheme will “not have a detrimental impact on the surrounding immediate area, or on the wider area of Peterhead”.
A total of 28 parking spaces will be created to accommodate the coffee shop with another 22 slots to service the retail unit.
