A charity that supports addicts is working to ensure their journey to recovery continues over the festive period.
Cair Scotland, a rehabilitation support charity, held a Christmas lunch in Huntly last week for nearly 40 people.
Food hampers from the North Aberdeenshire food bank, based in Inverurie, were also handed out.
Today, a Christmas party will be held in Insch Community Centre today, from 10am-2pm, with a similar event lined up for December 28 in Wyness Hall, Inverurie, from 1pm-3pm.
Development worker Diane Ord, who is also the chairwoman of the Aberdeenshire Drug Partnership Central Community Forum, said last week’s party made a “huge difference” to her clients.
“It makes such a huge difference to our clients – it’s something they just wouldn’t usually have – a little bit of luxury like chocolate or a mince pie – it can make all the difference,” she said.
“The food bank does an amazing job. I think it just makes you realise how much we take for granted. “
Mrs Ord urged her clients to head along to the next two events, and added: “We find everything shuts down for two weeks, so our parties are a little bit extra help at what can be a difficult time of the year.
“There will also be the regular Sunday Connections cafe running throughout the break which is held in the Tesco Community Room in their Inverurie store between 3pm and 5pm – it’s another chance to get a hot meal.”
People who may otherwise have nowhere else to go on Christmas Day can also attend a community lunch in Inverurie Town Hall, which will run from 12.30pm-4.30pm. Booking is essential, call 07546 721975 or email Inverurie@citychurchaberdeen.org
