Sex shops in Aberdeen will have their licensing fees cut by hundreds of pounds after a decision by Aberdeen City Council’s licensing committee yesterday.
The committee agreed to recommendations to reduce the cost of a licence by 20% because the licensing board is bound by law to not exceed or make profit from their fees.
The changes, which take place from today, means sex shop owners would save £1,050 for their first licence, and £630 for renewals.
Under Scottish Law, a licence is required if your business sells certain items of clothing, pornography and other adult items .
However, tamer high street shops like Ann Summers are not under the same requirements, a position that was challenged unsuccessfully in court in 2010.
