The Beatles’ Ringo Starr and Bee Gees co-founder Barry Gibb have been awarded knighthoods in the New Year Honours, alongside a string of political figures including former Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg.
Closer to home there were celebrations for a number of north-east people who made it onto this year’s list.

- Joan Ingram. For service to healthcare
- Alison Sellar, chief executive of Activpayroll. For services to business in Scotland and abroad.

- Dr Ian Davies, programme manager, renewables and energy, Marine Scotland Science. For services to marine science and voluntary service in UK and abroad.
BEM
- Matthew Fyfe, poppy convener, Royal British Legion. For services to veterans in Aberdeenshire.
- Patrick Gaul, for voluntary service in Turriff.
- John Maclean, chairman, Peterhead branch, RAF Association. For voluntary service to ex-service personnel.
