The deadline for people wishing to speak at a public meeting on proposals for Aberdeen FC’s new stadium has been extended.

A pre-determination hearing is due to take place on January 17 into the £50million Kingsford proposals.

The closing date for applications to speak at the meeting had initially been December 21, but this has now been extended until Monday at 5pm.

However only individuals who have submitted a representation in response to the latest consultation which was carried out are entitled to participate in the hearing.

The ambitious plans for a new stadium and training facilities at the site between Kingsford and Westhill have become a battleground since they were first unveiled.

The grassroots No to Kingsford campaign group has challenged claims about the economic benefits the plan would bring and opposed the development, citing a loss of greenbelt land and a surge of traffic in the area.

While the Dons have argued that the plan is the only way to make sure the club remains competitive, insisting that there are no other suitable sites to build on.

Chairman Stewart Milne has previously said the club has a “rock solid” case for planning consent.

But he also warned there was no “plan B” if the stadium does not get approved.

Anyone wanting to speak at the hearing should contact Lynsey McBain at lymcbain@aberdeencity.gov.uk, or 01224 522123.

The pre-determination hearing will begin at 9.30am in the council chamber at the Town House.

And the special full council meeting will take place on January 29, where a decision will be made on the application.
