A leading light of the tourism industry is gearing up for an excursion around the new North East 250 route in her vintage Volkswagen Beetle.
Lynda McGuigan, the manager of Fraserburgh’s Museum of Scottish Lighthouses, is planning to tour the region in her classic car.
The NE250 was launched last year by Guy Macpherson-Grant, the owner of Ballindalloch Castle in Speyside.
It takes motorists through Royal Deeside, Speyside, the Cairngorms, Aberdeen, the east coast and Moray showcasing castles, wildlife, beaches and distilleries.
The scenic journey aims to boost the economies of the towns it passes through and has the backing of firms such as Chivas Brothers and Aberdeen International Airport.
Ms McGuigan, who is also chairwoman of the Fraserburgh Area Tourism Group, will capture her journey on camera.
A date has yet to be set for the adventure, but it is hoped it could take place at the end of February or in March.
She said: “We are planning to do it in my green car, which I have called Kermit.
“We want to visit lots of different places and those in our area particularly.
“It will give us lots of material for the (Discover Fraserburgh) website.
“I think the route is fabulous and Mr Macpherson-Grant has done a really good job.
“I hope it will bring more people to Fraserburgh and the shire.
“I will be joined by other members of the group and the idea is to produce lots of photographs and we will be working together.”
The North East 250 was launched last November and the organisers hope to replicate the success of the North Coast 500 in the Highlands.
Speaking at the time, Mr Macpherson-Grant said: “I am excited by the potential of the North East 250 to bring more visitors to our area and experience, what I believe, is the very best that Scotland has to offer.”
Just days after the launch supporters of Dunnotar Castle voiced their disappointment after the iconic structure was omitted from the route.
They said they felt “let down” that it was not included in the plans.
