An animal charity has issued an appeal to find a new home for a “lovable” dog whose breed is putting people off her.
The Aberdeen branch of the Dog Action Working Group Scotland (Dawgs) organisation was tasked with finding new owners for German Shepherd-Akita cross Kimi at the start of November.
The dog is remaining with its present family, who are reluctantly giving up ownership, while a new home for the six-year-old pet is secured.
But staff at the centre say they have come up against a brick wall when attempting to persuade people to give Kimi a chance.
They fear that her breed is proving a deterrent, with prospective owners scared she might be aggressive or difficult to train.
Dawgs chairwoman, Mary Diack, yesterday pleaded with animal-lovers to meet Kimi in person and judge her temperament for themselves.
She said: “We are really surprised that we haven’t got the right match for Kimi yet, she is a lovely dog .
“She is affectionate and lovable, and would make an ideal pet in the right home.”
Dawgs says that an individual or family fond of the outdoors would be best for the active dog, ideally with no other pets, although Kimi is comfortable around children.
The charity has found new homes for thousands of dogs since it was set up almost 25 years ago.
It carefully matches pets to potential new owners, performing home checks and follow-up visits to make sure things are going smoothly.
