An Aberdeenshire group who hope to win the Press and Journal’s minibus competition said it would help them to take their youngsters on trips across the north-east.
Methlick Scout Group are one of the many community organisations in the running to secure a brand new 17-seater Ford Transit from AM Phillip, sponsored by Nexen.
Keith Hewitt, the group scout leader, said winning the minibus would make his group “far more independent”.
“As a small rural group, going anywhere is a real struggle because we have to spend a fortune hiring transport, or we have to rely on volunteers,” he said.
“So having our very own vehicle would make life so much easier and help us to expand the things that we do.
“We have about 80 youngsters that are part of the scout group of all age groups, including beavers and cubs, and if we were lucky enough to win the minibus it would mean we would be able to take them anywhere we liked, which would be fantastic.
“We manage in the meantime with parents, and leaders help and support, but this would be brilliant and make us far more independent.
“We follow the Scout Association’s rules and mission statement, to help young people achieve their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities.
“We do this by taking part in a variety of activities and new experiences, exploring the outdoors, participating in teams and taking responsibility.”
To enter the competition, which runs until February 3, you will need to collect at least 50 tokens.
The tokens are printed every day in the Press and Journal, but to increase your chances of winning, you can submit multiple entry forms, as long as you have 50 tokens attached to each entry.
