A dad launched an abusive tirade at his partner as she cradled their newborn on Christmas Day, because hosting duties and sleepless nights had “tired him out”.
Ryan Macleod was arrested after neighbours overheard him “aggressively” calling Chantel Brown “fat and ugly”.
Yesterday, Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard that the 26-year-old blamed the excesses of the festive season combined with sleep deprivation for his behaviour.
Fiscal Lixia Sun said: “The accused had been drinking throughout the day and at 8pm started shouting and swearing at Miss Brown totally out of the blue.
“Neighbours heard Miss Brown being called ‘fat’ and ‘ugly’, and he continued to shout and swear at her as she held their daughter.”
The court heard that a distraught Miss Brown then called the police to their Fowler Avenue property.
Ms Sun added: “Officers found Macleod to be aggressive, as he refused to be placed in handcuffs.”
Macleod later admitted charges of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner to Miss Brown, and of resisting arrest by “struggling violently” with officers.
Defence agent Ian Woodward-Nutt said: “His child was born seven days before this, and the young couple had been having insufficient sleep.
“On Christmas Day, they had been hosting the complainer’s family and my client spent the day cooking.
“What happened must be seen through this context.”
Sheriff Graham Buchanan placed Macleod, whose present address was given as Cottonfield Place, under supervision for the next year and ordered him to perform 100 hours of community service.
