Plans have been launched to shut a north-east library and move it into a community centre.
Mintlaw’s library has been earmarked for closure by the local authority and ahead of any move the local authority is asking the public for their views.
It has been proposed that the library move into the village’s MacBi Community Hub.
A spokesman for the council last night said it would be the first such arrangement of its type in Aberdeenshire.
“A survey about the library’s proposed move into the MacBi Community Hub will take place between 1pm and 8pm on Thursday, February 1,” he added.
“Library staff will be present to answer any questions and collect feedback.”
An online survey will also be available from Thursday until Sunday, February 11.
The proposed move has been hailed by local councillors.
Last night, Norman Smith, who is also the chairman of the MacBi group, said the move would help “modernise” the library service.
“Right now, it’s just a project that the delivery service is looking at,” he said.
“It’s a way of enhancing the library from a building that’s only open a limited amount of hours to the hub which open seven days a week. It’d be more footfall and, in this day and age, it’s a service that needs to be modernised.
“There’s other ways it could work, but nothing is set in stone just now. We could maybe build a small extension to the hub itself to help accommodate the library.
“To me, it makes sense. I would just urge people to put their views forward and take part in the consultation.”
Mintlaw’s library is the latest to come under the microscope of the council.
Banff Library underwent a four-month transformation last year, which included bringing in digital resources and a 3D printer.
