The “biggest ever” Aberdeen Jazz Festival is returning to the city again in March for an extended run of eleven days.
Bringing together world-class acts and local talent to venues across the city, the festival hopes to attract even more music-lovers than last year to become one of the largest Jazz Festivals in the UK.
The festival opens with leading UK musician, Georgina Jackson who is collaborating with the Aberdeen Jazz Orchestra on Thursday, March 8.
Music fans will be able to watch bands playing at various venues across the city, including HMT, the Carmelite and Queen’s Cross Church.
And the organisers hope to smash the record number of ticket sales last year.
The event receives funding from Aberdeen Inspired and Aberdeen City Council,
Chief executive of Aberdeen Inspired Adrian Watson said: “Aberdeen Jazz Festival is one of the jewels in Aberdeen’s crown and we are delighted to increase our support to help it expand to 11 days, to 22 venues and attracting more visitors, benefiting both the public and the city centre businesses.”
One new event planned for this year will be a Blues Afternoon taking place at three diferent venues in Belmont Street.
And the popular Jazz on the Green all-day event will return to the city on Sunday, March 11, which will be further expanded to include the courtyard at The Academy and the entrance to Union Square.
Chairman of Aberdeen Jazz Festival Neil Gibbons said: “The new expanded festival offers an even better celebration of jazz music by increasing the number and breadth of acts which remember our past, revel in the music of now, and showcase new directions and younger players.”
Featuring 35 concerts, performers from two continents and live music over eleven days, The Aberdeen Jazz Festival invites audiences to come along and join in.
Tickets are available from www.aberdeenjazzfestival.com or can be bought at The Lemon Tree or His Majesty’s Theatre.
