A four-year-old boy was in a critical condition last night after he fell two storeys from a council flat window in Aberdeen.
The youngster plummeted from the window on the top floor of a communal stairway and onto the paved pavement below.
Police and ambulance teams rushed to the scene at the Invercauld Road
flats just after 5pm on Friday.
The boy was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, before being airlifted to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow for treatment.
Last night, the youngster was said to be in a “stable but critical condition”, and his family are staying with him in hospital.
The window that the boy fell through is missing a large chunk of glass, and has been boarded up.
Simon Reid, a community policing team inspector, said: “The boy was initially taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary before later being transferred to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow, where he has been described as being in a stable but critical condition.
“Officers remain in contact with the family to provide support and have liaised with Aberdeen City Council regarding the incident.”
The incident happened just two weeks after 36-year-old Shaun Edgar was severely injured after a four-storey fall from a council flat window. He is currently in a coma.
His father Michael insisted that he wants the local authority to address the issue.
He added: “I don’t know the ins and outs of what happened to this poor young boy, but I don’t think anybody should be falling out of windows – there needs to be proper health and safety to stop things like this happening.
“The council can’t let tenants live in buildings where they could fall through window frames, they need to look into
this.
“I’m just worried that there could be a lot of people that live in flats where their safety is at risk.”
A council spokesman said: “Our immediate concern is for the child involved and our thoughts are with the family at this time.
“I can confirm we were alerted to the incident on Friday evening by Police Scotland and attended to carry out temporary repairs to the damaged window.
“Although it would not be appropriate to comment on specifics in relation to the incident, inspections have been carried out at the property in line with procedure.”
