North-east schools compete to become national Glee Challenge champions

These are no ordinary school choirs, these are Glee choirs.

The Aberdeen primary school ‘Glee Challenge 2018’ kicks off tonight with schools across the north-east competing in the first regional heat.

14 schools from Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire will sing, dance and perform in front of a packed out Beach Ballroom and a judging panel in the city centre.

The top choirs progress through a series of heats, regional finals and then a national final to be held next Monday.

A total of 4,000 children from 130 schools across Scotland will take part in this year’s event performing both today and tomorrow. Each child participating receives a medal and certificate of participation in recognition of their efforts.

The Frisson Foundation supports the challenge giving children the opportunity to develop their Glee skills with free professional coaching and development workshops for the choir leaders.

Funding permitting the Challenge looks to extend to the West of Scotland next year.

The north-east school teams competing include: Night Cults, St Josephs RC, Riverbank, Abbotswell, Skene Square, Glashieburn, Fernilea, Stoneywood, St Peters RC and Ashley Road.
