Traffic wardens should be given the power to ticket cars that block driveways, a city councillor has said.
Liberal Democrat Kingswells, Sheddocksley and Summerhill member Steve Delaney has submitted a motion to next Monday’s full council meeting asking for the offence to decriminalised.
Police officers are currently responsible for taking action if a car is blocked-in.
Mr Delaney said giving the powers to wardens would enable the police to concentrate on more serious crimes.
He said: “This is something that has come up a few times over the years.
“At present the council can’t take action because blocking driveways isn’t a violation of yellow lines.
“A lot of people don’t want to bother the police by reporting offences and rightly they may be out on more serious incidents.
“All I’m asking is for the council to write to the Scottish Government and see if this can be decriminalised.
“I hope this proposal is accepted because to me it seems like common sense.”
