A man who staged a brutal masked raid on an Aberdeen retailer has been jailed for 21 months.
Ross Fletcher, 27, entered McDonald Licensed Grocers in the city’s Clifton Road with his face concealed and armed with a wooden stick.
He then threatened, struggled with and finally assaulted Neil McDonald in an attempt to rob him, punching his victim repeatedly on the head to his injury.
Fletcher, described as an inmate at HMP Grampian, admitted carrying out the assault on October 21, 2016.
He also pleaded guilty to being in possession of a knife at the Co-op Food store in the city’s Rosehill Drive on January 14, 2017.
Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard Fletcher had a past criminal record, though none of his previous convictions were of such a serious nature.
Sheriff William Summers said there was “no alternative” to custody.
