Nicola Sturgeon has called on disgraced MSP Mark McDonald to quit Holyrood after investigators found he had “exploited” his power and caused “distress” to women.
The first minister urged her former early years minister to ask the constituents of Aberdeen Donside to deliver their verdict on his future.
What do you think?
The intervention came during a dramatic day in which Mr McDonald announced he had resigned from the SNP but intended to stay on as an independent MSP.
Peter Cooper, 40, rail worker from Mastrick said: “I think he should have resigned as an MSP when he stepped down from the cabinet in November. I don’t think he has set a very good example by going about things the way he has.”
Retired air traffic control assistant, Brian Imrie wants the voters to decide: “I think that if Mr McDonald wants to continue as an independent MSP then he should stand down and let the voters decide in a by-election.
“He was voted in as SNP, and a lot of folk would have voted for the party rather than him personally.”
Moira Mair, 63, from Northfield believes McDonald had to go: “It most definitely is not right for him to continue, I don’t think anyone can trust him anymore. He isn’t fit to remain as an MSP.”
Summerhill sales manager, Graham Still thinks McDonald is still the right man for the job: “He is a good politician and I would be willing to allow him a second chance. He appears to have learned from this and is very remorseful about how he acted.”
