An annual tractor run, established to commemorate a popular north-east man, has handed over sums of money to different local charities.
The Sandy Thain Memorial Run was set up in 2014 following his sudden death from the rare disease amyloidosis.
Friends and colleagues meet every October to tour around rural Aberdeenshire on classic tractors.
They raised £3,300 for local cancer charities and delivered cheques to people representing different good causes during an event near Fraserburgh yesterday.
In the last four years, the event has raised £14,500 and the last-ever run will be held on Sunday, October 7.
Organiser Jane Ironside said they had decided to help charities which work with cancer sufferers throughout the north-east.
She added: “We had a good amount of people coming along to hand over our cheques worth £3,300.
“This year, it was for local cancer charities like Clan, Maggies, Anchor and Aberdeen Lung Cancer Group. It makes the hard work all worth it.
“Some people who were there have been affected by cancer and they were collecting for their charities.
“They were all delighted they were getting something. They always thank us.”
Mrs Ironside confirmed this year’s event will be the last because it is becoming increasingly difficult to stage.
She said: “We have been doing for the last four years and we have raised £14,500 so far.
“But this coming October is going to be the last one. None of us are getting any younger and it is quite hard to organise it.
“It was going to be a one-off four years ago, but it was such a success that people said they wanted us to do another one.
“But this is going to be the last one. I doubt we will make it to £20,000, but you never know.
“I don’t think anyone will take it on and Sandy’s family are quite happy that this will be the last one.
“We will go for five events and that will be a nice number and we will try and break our £20,000 target.”
Previously, the group has raised cash for other groups including the Scottish Air Ambulance Service, the Sandpiper Trust and Fraserburgh’s ambulance station.
