The incident took place overnight last Thursday at The Fettery Shoppe, The Square in Fettercairn.
A quantity of alcohol and tobacco valued at a low four figure sum plus a three figure sum of cash were taken.
Investigating Officer PC Nicole Cuthill said: “This would be a highly unusual incident for Fettercairn and so I am appealing to anyone who may have been driving through the area last Thursday night or Friday morning to think back and recall if they saw anything unusual in the area of the shop.
“If anyone does have any information that they think could assist us with our inquiries I would ask that they call Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference 0399 of 9 March.”
To remain anonymous information can also be given to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
