Hundreds of people flocked to the north-east yesterday after a farmer’s invitation to meet newborn lambs went viral.
Robbie Wilson expected a few dozen locals to show an interest in his work at North Dorlaithers, near Turriff, when he posted a message online offering a look inside his barns.
But over the weekend he spent more than 12 hours meeting and talking to families from across Aberdeenshire and further afield.
One woman even travelled from Lossiemouth to catch a glimpse of the cute creatures.
Youngster Lexi Cheyne, 3, was one of a number of children playing with the animals on Sunday.
Mum Leanne said the family travelled from Banff to visit.
“It’s her first time seeing a lamb,” she added.
“She just loves it.”
Mr Wilson now hopes to open the farm on an annual basis and help raise money for charities.
He said: “The idea was to just get local people down to the farm, because a lot of them ask about the sheep.
“But it went viral within 10 minutes and so many people started to get in touch we had to start booking them into slots – about 30 people an hour have been here today.
“We’ve had about 400 people through the whole weekend and they’ve been so appreciative. I think we’d have to do something for charity next year.
“But it’s been nice to offer something for free and to see kids so happy.
“It’s been good for the adults as well, because you don’t often get a look inside farms to see what it’s all about.”
Mr Wilson, who is an accomplished sheep breeder, has kept the animals in the north-east since 1991, when he took in a flock of Strathisla Suffolk.
Since then, he has expanded into Milnbank Texels.
He regularly shows his animals in events around the region and is currently in the process of preparing for this year’s Highland show.
