A new vision for an historic north-east building has been unveiled to the public.
The upgrade of the A-listed Strichen Town Hall would include a striking glass extension.
It would improve disabled access and provide space for new public toilets and much-needed storage.
The town house was owned by the council but was taken over by the Strichen Community Park Group last year with the aim of transforming it into a heritage centre.
Director Robert Chapman said the proposals now put forward by the group would represent a good addition to the existing building.
He said: “It is an A-listed building, but it will be very difficult to recreate what is already there. I believe this glass structure will fit very well.
“It will include a lift, providing disabled access all the way to the top hall.
“Our proposals have just been submitted to planner but we have already discussed them with Historic Scotland and they are very happy.
“We are a while away from pricing down to the last screw, but estimate the project will cost about £500,000.
“We will have to apply for grants and we will have to raise some money ourselves. Once the project starts we will have to do some serious fundraising.”
The proposals were showcased at an open day held at the town hall.
Fellow director, Hebbie Fowler, said their future vision for the structure received a warm welcome.
He said: “There was a good response and the idea is to keep the village involved with what is going on.
“Everybody is very positive about and thinks it is a good thing for the village.
“We have a lot of local heritage and we now have the ideal place to keep it.”
All four of the building’s clocks were given a major facelift earlier this month.
They were fitted with new hands, fresh gilding and new chimes.
