A north-east road had to be closed last night after a suspected bomb washed ashore.
The B9031 Rosehearty to Sandhaven road was shut at about 3pm when a member of the public flagged up a suspicious device on Sandhaven Beach.
Coastguard crews had been scrambled to the scene about an hour earlier to keep the public away while police began the process of setting up a 300ft cordon for explosive ordinance disposal (EOD) teams to arrive.
A spokeswoman for the police said there was “no threat” to the wider public during the incident.
“EOD has been contacted an is anticipated to attend to ensure the area is safe,” she added.
